KENTVILLE - The Gaels, one of four Halifax teams, were victorious at the Ladies Over-30 soccer provincials played Sept. 25-27 in Kentville, capturing the provincial title with a 1-0 victory over Acadia Roofing in the Sept. 27 final.

Four Valley teams – Acadia Roofing, Paddy’s Ravens, Falmouth Fillies and Somerset Goal Diggers – and four Metro teams – Supersonics, Gaels, Dynamos and Bluenosers – contested the provincial championship.

In the round robin, Acadia Roofing finished atop Group 1 with a 2-1 record. Somerset and Gaels were both at 1-1-1, and Dynamos brought up the rear at 1-2.

In Division 2, Supersonics finished on top at 3-0. Falmouth and Bluenosers were both at 1-1-1 and Paddy’s Ravens were winless at 0-3.

Supersonics, Acadia Roofing, Gaels and Falmouth advanced to the semifinals, which saw Acadia Roofing hand Supersonics their first loss of the tournament by a 2-0 score, and Gaels top Falmouth 5-2.

Supersonics edged Falmouth 2-1 in the bronze medal game, after which the Gaels prevailed 1-0 over Acadia Roofing in a competitive final.

The other ladies over-30 leagues, minus the teams that were competing at provincials, held their respective wrap-up tournaments on the same weekend, also playing on the Kentville fields.
