Could a Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship come to Wolfville?

That's what Acadia University is hoping. The school put in a bid to host CIS women's soccer in 2016.

On the Acadia Athletics website, athletics director Kevin Dickie said he is excited about the prospect.

"Soccer is core not only to Acadia, but within the Annapolis Valley," Dickie said.  "There is no question that this event will be one of the most special national championships that the CIS has ever hosted."

There is hot competition for the opportunity, with nine schools wanting to play host to the championships in 2015 and/or 2016: Acadia (2016), UBC (2015), Dalhousie (2015), Guelph (2015 or 2016), Ottawa (2015 and/or 2016), Queen’s (2016), York (2015 and/or 2016) and a joint bid from Western and McMaster (2015 and/or 2016.)

Successful bids are expected to be announced in October.

The 2014 nationals will be in Laval, Que., in November.
