The girls lost their first game Friday, Aug. 15 against Kings West Comeau 2-1 after being up 1-0 at the half.

Molly MacNaughton scored the Digby goal.

“From there our girls never quit for another second for the entire tournament,” said Digby coach Jonathan Ettinger. “ Every single player played their best soccer all season from that moment on.”

Saturday Digby defeated East Kings Sanford 2-0. Paige Ettinger and MacNaughton scored for Digby and Stacey Andrews earned the shutout.

Andrews, playing her firs game in nets, even  stopped a penalty kick late in the second half.

Digby needed a win in their final round robin game against the West Hants Hornets to advance.

Digby won convincingly 4-0.  Janelle Andrews, and Ettinger each scored one for the Tigers and MacNaughton scored twice.  Stacey Andrews earned her second shutout, in her second game in nets.

Digby played the West Hants Lightning Bolts in the first elimination game Sunday and won 4-1.

Janelle Andrews scored on a penalty kick, Olivia Daley scored on a corner kick.  Janelle and MacNaughton scored the final two.

Digby met the West Hants Hornets in the championship game, and again Janelle Andrews opened the scoring with a successful penalty kick.

The game stayed 1-0 til MacNaughton added in the insurance goal with ten minutes left.

Stacey Andrews earned a third shut as Digby won 2-0.

“In all my years coaching and playing, I have never seen a group of players want to win and play harder than these U12's did this weekend,” said Ettinger. “Every single one of our Digby girls played their hearts out on every single second of every single play.  It will remain with me, for my entire life, as one of the best weekends of soccer ever.”
