Kings County athletes compete in squash, hockey to kick off Week 2 of Canada Games

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Week Two of the Canada Winter Games is now underway and Kings County will be well-represented.

Squash action got underway on Feb. 22, with Douglas Kosciukiewicz, of Kentville, performed in the first round of the individual male competition against Alberta’s Brett Schille. Kosciukiewicz was defeated by Schille, who took the match 11-6, 11-3 and 11-3. The quarter-finals are set for Feb. 23.

In other squash action, team competition will get underway on Feb. 23, with Nova Scotia’s female team facing off against Ontario at 6 p.m. Atlantic time and the male team playing at 8:30 p.m. against the Northwest Territories. The squash team is coached by Janet MacLeod of New Minas, while Taylor Kosciukiewicz, Kentville, and Nick Sangster, Hantsport, who trains with the Kentville squash club, are also on Team Nova Scotia.

Men’s hockey action got underway Feb. 22 against Quebec. Cole Rafuse, of Kingston, is on Team Nova Scotia, which was defeated 6-1 by Quebec. Action will continue Feb. 23 against Alberta at 8 p.m. Atlantic time.

Team Nova Scotia’s women’s curling will get underway with a game at 2 p.m. against Newfoundland. Berwick’s Jennifer Smith plays on the women’s squad.

Figure skating is also slated to get started Feb. 23, with Greenwood’s Alex Robert competing for Team Nova Scotia.
