ANNAPOLIS ROYAL - On Monday, Nov. 28 the Annapolis West Education Centre Junior Boys volleyball team brought home the regional championship for the first time in more than a decade.
AWEC defeated Ecole Rose des Vents from Greenwood in the final match by scores of 25-23 and 26-24.
Other schools participating in the regional tournament came from South Queens, Wolfville, Par en Bas and Bayview in Mahone Bay.
AWEC Captain, Cameron Wiles was a forceful presence at the net with a number of blocks and kills. Wiles’ net play and strong serving by setter Max Longmire allowed AWEC to overcome a couple 7-point deficits in the championship match.
“It showed a lot of character that the players did not allow themselves to get frustrated when we fell behind in the final match,” said AWEC coach Ryan Scranton. “We played some very good volleyball today. We were able to pass the ball well throughout the day. That gave our setters and hitters a lot to work with. It was really nice seeing how well they played as a team and the level of effort that they put in.”
