Andrea Burk and the Canadian senior women’s team are headed to the semifinals of the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup this week in Marcoussis, France.

After tough 13-13 tie with England Aug. 9 the two teams had an identical record, with England edging out Canada from the guaranteed semifinal spot on point differential. However, the Canadians earned the wild card berth and will meet the host team Aug. 13 in the other semi.

“We felt really strong in our performance against England and we know we have more to give,” Burk, a former Acadia Axewoman said after the game.

“So far this tournament we have been recovering well between games and I have no doubt that we will bring the same level of intensity and preparedness to the next game.”

The Aug. 13 game will air on TSN at 3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time.

Burk said last week the players are buoyed by the support from Canada.

“Thanks to everyone at home who has been watching on TSN and cheering us on through, Facebook and Twitter,” the Acadia grad said Aug. 10. “ Your support goes a long way in pushing us on the field.”
