Brown is taking part in The Pro-Game, a tournament that raises money for the IWK Foundation, Jumpstart and the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club. This game lasts much longer than three periods, though: it runs a full 24 hours.

Brown was invited to take one of the vacant spots on a team by a friend, who has played in all four of the previous fundraisers. Brown says it wasn't a hard decision to take part.

"I couldn't pass this up, especially to raise money for the IWK. Anytime you can raise money for the IWK, it is worth it," he says.

The other two charities are well worth it also, he added.

He has no idea how to prepare for 24 hours of hockey, though. Playing that many games in a row are more than some teams play in a season, he says.

"It's going to be interesting," says Brown

Brown has played hockey since he was four, and now as an adult, he plays in the local Mersey League. He has also taken part in several local charity games, including playing against the NHL legends when they came to Queens County in September.

So far, he has raised over $1,000 for the fundraiser through donations from friends and family. Items he collected locally were auctioned at an event in Sackville to help top up his fundraising efforts. He's hoping to get a bit more before the game.

As the day of the game approaches, he says he's feeling both excited and a little nervous.

"I'm starting to ask 'what did I get myself into,' but at the same time, I'm looking forward to it," he says.

The game takes place Feb. 13 and 14 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex.
