The puck is set to drop for the annual BMHS Tim Horton’s Lobster Trap Hockey Tournament.

Eight teams will compete in the three day tournament, which opens Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10:45 a.m. with the host Barons facing off against the Bridgewater Hawks.

Round robin competition will be in two divisions. Hants East and Richmond Academy round out the Red Division, along with Barrington and Bridgewater. The Grey Division line-up includes Par-en-Bas, Yarmouth, Clare and Parkview.

Tournament play is on tap all day Thursday and again on Friday, starting at 8 a.m. Semi-final action gets underway Saturday morning at 10 a.m., with the championship game scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

All games will be at the Barrington Municipal Arenas on Sherose Island. Tournament passes are available.

The Barons are going into the tournament with a second place standing in the Southwest High School Hockey League, and had an 8-2 record as of Jan. 9.

“Our season has been going well,” said Coach Scott Pothier. “We have an older team, with three solid forward lines, six solid defenseman and two great goalies. One player in particular is far from home. Jesper Andersson, an international student from Järna, Sweden, is at BMHS and has been an impact player this year for us. Kegin Penney leads the team in scoring. We're hoping for a good result at the end of the year. Our goal is the Provincial Championship.”

Pothier said he expects the Barons will put a “strong effort” into the Lobster Trap tournament. “It would be a bonus if the community came out to support us,” said Pothier. “The players would really appreciate that.”
