Annapolis Valley hockey players take to the ice with Midget AAA girls

BERWICK - Young female hockey players from West Hants, Acadia and Western Valley hockey organizations were invited a Nova Scotia Midget Female Hockey League  game Jan. 10 in Berwick.

The six- to eight-year-olds scrimmaged during the second period of the  midget AAA matchup between the visiting Northern Subway Selects and home team Metro Boston Pizza, which is the top female hockey team for all minor hockey organizations west of Halifax.

Northern Subway Selects defeated Metro Boston Pizza 2-1 with a last-second goal.

The AAA teams were 0-0 until the third period when Westville’s Madelyn Bourque’s power play goal opened the scoring six minutes in. Halifax’s Alyssa MacNeil tied it up for Metro with 53 seconds left, but New Glasgow’s Amanda Dunning notched the victory with a buzzer beater at 19:59 of the third period. Trenton’s Taylor Perry assisted on both Northern Subway Selects’ goals; Kate Gallagher of Stillwater Lake had the assist for Metro.

Halifax’s Josee Thibeau stopped 31 shots in Metro’s net while Truro’s Adi Small turned away 21 for the Selects.

Bourque and MacNeil were named players of the game.
