WINDSOR, N.S. — The second game of the doubleheader between the Windsor Knights and the Hantsport Shamrocks June 17 was just as close as the first game.

The Shamrocks swept the Knights by scores of 2-1 and 3-2.

In the second 3-2 game, Matt Lloy went the distance in pitching the win for Hantsport and in the process struck-out seven batters to bring his league leading total to 22 on the season to go along with an earned run average of 1.27.

Matt Russell continues his torrid pace at the plate as he went two for four, giving him 15 hits in 27 at bats for a .556 average. He has hit two home runs and drove in eight.

James Joice went three for three for Hantsport and remains red hot with a current batting average of .435.

Elliot Dickson-Greene lasted 2.2 innings for the Knights, giving up six hits before Alex Sabean relieved him and ended up taking the loss after allowing Hantsport the game winning run in the top of the sixth inning.

In the opening game, the Windsor Knights jumped in front 1-0 in the fourth inning but the Shamrocks struck for two in the sixth to give them the win.

Taylor Welch went the distance in pitching the win while Travis Hartt was two for three at the plate for the winners.

For the Knights, Sabean and Cory Whitney both collected a pair of hits while Devan Duffield doubled, providing the Knights with five of their seven hits on the afternoon.

Ryan Clarke walked four batters in pitching five and a third innings before receiving relief help from Paul Humphreys.

Jays sweep Braves

On June 16 at the Hants North Recreation Complex, the Kennetcook Braves’ defense cost them two games as they made a total of seven errors. They lost the doubleheader by counts of 7-4 and 8-3.

In the opening 7-4 win, the Noel Road Jays took a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning before the Braves attempted a comeback, scoring three runs in the fifth. The Jays came back with three of their own in the seventh to salt the game away.

Justin Campbell pitched four innings in garnering the win. He had relief help from Josh Burke and Kyle McCulloch and was backed up at the plate thanks to a two-run double from Collan McCulloch.

The Braves managed only two hits in the game and Dustin Harvie went the distance in allowing 10 hits and all seven runs.

In the second contest, the Jays did all of their scoring in the third and fourth innings as they plated three runs in the third and five in the fourth. The Braves scored three times in the fifth inning.

Mike White went two for four with a home run and three runs batted in for the Jays while Aaron McPhee went two for three for the Jays and Brandon Dunning did likewise for the Braves.

The Braves fell to 1-9 on the season while the Jays are 2-2 heading into the heavy part of their schedule.

Hantsport occupies first place in the league with a 7-3 mark and they were scheduled to play Noel Road June 24 in Noel Road. The Jays will come to Hantsport to complete their season series of four games with a doubleheader on June 30.

The Knights, who stand at 4-2, were set to host Kennetcook June 24. The Knights are scheduled  to travel to Sherose Island, Shelburne County, for a pair or games on Canada Day, while the Braves will be hosting the 5-5 Truro Bearcats at the Hants North Recreation complex on Canada Day.
