For the second year in a row, Digby’s Eric Locke has set a record for the lowest score during the qualifying tournament to make the Holland College mens golf team.
Last year he shot 14 under over eight rounds of golf and this year he shot four better, to notch an 18 under for a 558 total.
Locke beat his nearest competitor by 26 strokes. Brett Wilson, also starting his third year with the Hurricanes shot a 584 and Justin Shanks shot 588. The fourth place finisher was 43 points behind Locke.
Twenty-eight players tried out and the top ten players in the eight-round tournament will practice and play with the varsity team at Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI.
Locke and the Hurricanes participate in their first tournament this weekend. They play a one-day Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association event, hosted by St. Thomas University, on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Mactaquac Golf Course.
