Acadia baseball club wins three of four games, hosts Dal and SMU at Memorial Park this weekend

Acadia picked up three wins on the diamonds in baseball play last weekend.

Sept. 20 the Axemen club team played a doubleheader against St. F.X. in CCBA Atlantic Conference Baseball action at Memorial Park in Kentville.

In the first game, Acadia’s Wes Harding pitched a complete game four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks in a 3-2 victory. Mark McPhee and Sam Gallant led the Acadia offence with two hits each.

In the second game, Sam Byers pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three for the 10-5 win. The Acadia offence was led by Mark McPhee and Matt Gendro, who both had three hits and three runs scored. Gendron had three RBIs.

Sept, 21, at Shamrock Field in Hantsport, the Acadia Axemen took on rival St Mary’s Huskies in Sunday doubleheader.  

Acadia took the first game by a score of 6-5. David Pilat got the win, pitching seven innings and allowing five runs in earning the win. Brandon McKay hit a walk-off line drive double to the left field corner scoring the tying and winning runs.

In the second game, Acadia spotted St Mary’s four runs in the first inning on a couple of defensive errors and could not rally back, eventually losing 6-3. Tristan Reede pitched well, allowing six runs, but only one earned, while striking out nine batters and allowing five hits in seven innings of work. Acadia offence led by shortstop Ryan McAree with two hits and two RBIs.

The Acadia Axemen are at home at Memorial Park in Kentville Sept. 27 against Dalhousie University for a double header at 1 and 4 p.m. and again Sept. 28 against SMU, also at 1 and 4 p.m.
