The provincial aquaculture division will move to Shelburne early next year.
The province has an agreement to use space at the Nova Scotia Community College's Shelburne campus.
"Moving the fisheries department's aquaculture division will bring about 15 full-time jobs to rural Nova Scotia," said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau. "Using available space at NSCC is a responsible use of taxpayers' money and an opportunity to encourage greater collaboration between our department and NSCC."
The aquaculture division will use about 3,600 square feet of space at NSCC Shelburne. The space will be redesigned and modestly renovated. The department expects to move into the renovated space early in the New Year.
"We are looking forward to welcoming the department's aquaculture division to our campus," said NSCC Shelburne principal Mary Thompson. "The college is a community-focused institution and is pleased to open its doors as part of an initiative by the province which aims to enhance economic opportunities in our area."
Roger Taylor, Warden of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, also welcomed the news.
"The economic spinoff of the additional jobs in the community is very important to us," Mr. Taylor said. "New families bring students for our schools. It's great to see this plan come to fruition."
