The federal government has announced that it will contribute up to $5,375 for restoration work to the Yarmouth Cenotaph.
The cenotaph is erected in memory of the war dead of Yarmouth County from the First World War, Second World War and the Korean War.
The funding announcement was made by West Nova MP Greg Kerr.
The Town of Yarmouth, and it has consulted with the Royal Canadian Legion on this project, is having the memorial, which is located in front of the Yarmouth library, restored.
The planned restoration work includes cleaning and waxing the bronze statue and other bronze and lead elements, reinforcing the plaque, and repointing and cleaning the granite monument.
Federal funding for this initiative is provided through the Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program. Through this program, the Government of Canada works in partnership with community groups and local organizations to ensure that cenotaphs and monuments honouring our nation’s heroes are conserved to the highest standard of care and dignity.
