It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grampy, brother and uncle, Lawrence Vickers, on Thursday, September 6, 2018, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. Born in Sydney Mines November 5, 1946, he was the son of the Late Kenneth and Agnes (Reid) Vickers. Lawrence will be forever remembered by his wife and soul mate of 42 years, Joyce; his daughter, Laura Lee (Daniel) Allain, and son, Kenneth (Carroll) Vickers. ”Grampy” will be lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren, Benjamin, Kennedy, Jade, Jasper, William and Jordie; by his sister, Frances Boyd, and brothers, Tom (Irene), Earl, and Donald; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Marlie (Lawrence) Norman, Arlie (Sharon) Forrest, Davey (Mildred) Forrest, Renie (George) Mills, Vivian Forrest (Kathy), Nancy (Dale ) Harrietha, Wanda (Murray) Jessome, Peter (Rossie) Forrest, Marie (Warren) Nicholson, Lisa (Brian) Matthews, Glen Forrest, Jody (Tracey) Forrest, Johnny Gibbons, William Rogers, Morris Gracie and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Bunny Gracie, Gail Rogers and Sandra Gibbons; his mother and father-in-law, Nettie and Jordie Forrest and sister-in-law, Willena Vickers. Lawrence worked at the Sydney Steel Plant for 25 years before retiring in 2000 and joining his son in his carpentry business. He will be fondly remembered for his love of all sports but particularly his love of hockey and the Detroit Red Wings. Lawrence loved to fish the Margaree River, spend time with his family in Boisdale, and fiddle with his many projects. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the members of the Cape Breton Cancer Center, VON and Palliative Care Services that provided exceptional care to our Dad during his illness. Special thanks to Dr. Khodadad, Dr. Rent and Dr. Wawer. A celebration of Lawrence’s life will take place on Monday, September 10, 2018, at 2 p.m. in Carman United Church, 1 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. A reception will be held in the church hall, following the burial Donations in Lawrence’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Dept at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
