Funeral service for the late Catherine Ann ‘Kaye’ Mattie, 72, James River, Antigonish County, was held July 18 in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish, with Deacon Berkley Guthro officiating. Burial was in Glen Bard Cemetery, James River. Mrs. Mattie died July 14, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers were Charlie Mattie and Cheryl Francis. Music was provided by Adam Baldwin, Tim and Cheryl Francis, Jocelyn Harrison, Tracy McNeil and Jennifer MacDougall. Honorary pallbearers were Ed, Cindy and Charlie Mattie, Cheryl Francis, Jocelyn Harrison, Tracy McNeil and Jennifer MacDougall. Born May 18, 1946, in Sydney, a daughter of Mary Ann (Barrie) Rudderham, Point Edward, she was raised in Monastery, by the late Daniel and Elizabeth Bowie. She was a loving, kind and compassionate woman, who always put her children above all. She felt blessed to have grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she showed them wisdom, strength, assertiveness and provided tough love kindly. One of her many passions was spending hours in her flowers beds. She loved a good road trip adventure with Winston. She always had a love for animals. Her most recent strays, Tom and Smokey, were lucky enough to land at her door. She is survived by her husband, Winston Kennedy; father of her children, Ralph (Kaye MacPherson), Linwood; daughter, Cindy (Wayne) Williams, Frankville; two sons, Ed, Linwood; Charlie (Holly), Fall River; four stepdaughters, Cheryl (Tim) Francis, Halifax; Jocelyn (Scott) Harrison, Blandford; Tracy (Josh) McNeil, Halifax; Jennifer (John) MacDougall, Halifax; eight siblings, Wendell (Cindy) Rudderham, Point Edward; Bob (Eileen) Barrie, Moose Jaw; Carmen (Rowena) Bowie, Monastery; Dale (Frances) Bowie, Antigonish; Bernice (Gerald) DeWolfe, James River; Debbie (Hector) Grant, Fairmont; Kim (Brian) Worth, Monastery; Lynn Bowie (Mark Lively), Windsor Junction; sister-in-law, Debbie Rudderham, Point Edward; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Calvin Rudderham; stepfather, Alan Rudderham.
