A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a stabbing last October that left a New Glasgow musician paralyzed from the waist down.

Shane Edward Matheson of Trenton has been sentenced to 10 years and must pay Scott Jones more than $11,000 in restitution.

Matheson will receive nine months credit for time served.

Stabbing victim Scott Jones read a victim impact statement in court in which he said he forgives Matheson for the attack in downtown New Glasgow.

Matheson entered a guilty plea to a charge of attempted murder in March.

Additional charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon were stayed by the Crown.
