A Halifax-area beach remains closed Thursday as crews continue the search for a 62-year-old man who has been missing since Wednesday.

Halifax Regional Police spokesman, Const. Pierre Bourdages, said Wallace Brannen was last heard from at 11 a.m. Wednesday when he called a family member.

A couple hours later, Bourdages say his vehicle was found at Crystal Crescent Beach but there have been no sightings of him since then.

“We’re still looking,” Bourdages said, adding that 150 search and rescue workers looked for Brannen overnight, and new crews were brought in Thursday morning.

He said two helicopters are helping the search, and the Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park remains closed. Bourdages said they believe Brannen is still in the park but “it’s a vast area.”

“It’s a big area to cover … it’s coastal as well,” Bourdages said.

Bourdages said at this point, police “really don’t know” what happened to Brannen but there is concern for his well-being.

Brannen is described as 5-foot-eight, 175 pounds with short grey hair and beard. He was last seen wearing glasses, a beige leather bomber-style jacket, a button-up shirt, blue jeans, black leather dress shoes and a black rimless baseball hat.

Anyone who has seen Brannen since Wednesday morning is asked to contact police at 490-5020
