A 26-year-old man hit by a vehicle a week ago has died in hospital in Halifax.
Cape Breton Regional Police Staff Sgt. Kevin Dowe confirmed the man died Saturday as a result of his injuries sustained during the incident on March 30.
Police haven’t released his name.
Dowe said the regional police’s major crime unit is continuing to investigate the case. He wouldn’t say whether charges were pending April 6.
“Until probably tomorrow, until they have a meeting, the guys in major crime, in consultation with the Crown to see if there’s enough evidence to proceed with a charge, that has to be done first,” Dowe said.
A woman, 26, who was arrested shortly after the incident, was released from custody without charges on Wednesday.
Police were called to the area of Leslie Lane in Glace Bay shortly after 9 a.m. March 30.
The woman allegedly hit her boyfriend with the vehicle she was driving and then fled the scene.
The vehicle was located later that day and the woman was arrested and taken into custody.
The man was first treated in hospital in Sydney but was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax where he succumbed to his injuries April 5.
