“We had a working house fire when we arrived,” said Waterville and District Fire Department Chief Wayne Johnstone.

No one was inside the house at the time the fire broke out, Johnstone said.

Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from completely destroying the home. The bulk of the damage was contained to the interior, with some small holes in the roof and broken windows visible from outside.

“There is a fair amount of fire and smoke damage,” said Johnstone, who noted that there were no injuries.

Firefighters from Waterville, Kentville and Berwick responded to the structure fire, battling the blaze in 29 C weather.

The cause is still under investigation.
