ST. CROIX, N.S. — Nobody was injured following a fire at a mobile home in St. Croix that melted siding and sent large billows of smoke into the air Dec. 27.
The structure, located at the corner of Davis Road and Highway 1, was extensively damaged by flames – but luckily, nobody was hurt from the blaze.
Rick Morley, who lived at the home, said he saw smoke coming from underneath the building and yelled for the one other person inside to get out.
“Everybody’s alright,” he said as firefighters were tackling the blaze. “I have no idea how damaged it is.”
Highway 1 was closed to traffic while firefighters worked at the scene.
The fire began around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2017, which was a frigid -10C, with snow falling.
Andy McDade, the chief of the Brooklyn Fire Department, said the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters from Brooklyn, Windsor and Hantsport were on scene, as well as members of the RCMP and EHS, and representatives with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation Infrastructure Renewal and Nova Scotia Power, who disconnected electricity to the home.
