The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle around 10:16 a.m. Aug. 10 at the intersection of Gerrish Street and Grey Street.

Jennifer Perry, the owner of the nearby Transcend Health and Fitness, witnessed the accident and rushed outside to help. She said the car hit him and he 'flew up in the air.'

“He was laying in the middle of the road. There were many people present and we were just trying to assess the situation, and where I'm in the fitness industry and know first aid and CPR, I ran out to help,” said Perry.

“We immobilized his spine, made sure he didn't move and made sure that he was calm, called 911 and waited for them to arrive.”

Members of the Windsor District RCMP attended the scene, as did firefighters and paramedics.

A spokesperson with the RCMP said a 40-year-old man is facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Perry, who opened up her holistic-minded fitness and nutrition studio at 134 Gerrish St. last week, said it was good to see so many people come to his aid.

“The other thing I'd like to add was the first responders were really great and they were fast acting and were here within less than five minutes. It was really good to see the community come together and all work together.”
