A Cormorant helicopter was at the scene off Cape Sable Island Wednesday night in the effort to medevac an injured fisherman.

An injured fisherman who was successfully airlifted Wednesday night from a boat off Cape Sable Island is in fair condition in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

A spokesperson with South West Health said the fisherman was still in hospital on Thursday afternoon but that he was conscious and his prognosis was favourable.

The medevac of the injured fisherman took place from a boat that was 74 nautical miles south of Cape Sable Island.

A Cormorant helicopter was able to hoist the injured man directly from his boat to the helicopter and from there proceeded directly to hospital.

A Hercules aircraft had also been tasked to the scene to provide top cover for the medevac mission.
