Custody for drug production


Robert Jody Bent, 38, of New Minas, has been sentenced to time in custody for unlawfully producing marijuana.

Bent changed his plea to guilty on April 30. The matter was adjourned to June 24 for sentencing.

Judge Alan Tufts sentenced Bent to six months in custody followed by one year of probation. The court imposed a 10-year, six-month firearm prohibition against Bent and a forfeiture order for offence related property.

Bent committed the offence in New Minas on March 4, 2013.


Suspended sentence for drug possession, production


Peter George Strudwick, 47, of North Kentville, had been handed a suspended sentence for unlawfully possessing crack cocaine and methadone and unlawfully producing marijuana.

Strudwick pleaded guilty to the charges on May 12 and sentenced June 24. Tufts handed Strudwick a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation. Strudwick was fined a total of $400 in victim fine surcharges. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition order against Strudwick and granted a forfeiture order for offence related property seized.

Strudwick committed the offences in North Kentville on Dec. 4, 2013.


Fine, probation for drug possession


Darroll Murray Atwell, 35, of Robinson Corner, has been fined and sentenced to probation for unlawfully possessing cocaine and unlawfully possessing under 30 grams of marijuana.

Atwell pleaded guilty to the charges on June 23. Judge Alan Tufts fined Atwell a total of $650 and sentenced him to nine months of probation.

Atwell committed the offences in Canaan on March 27.


Breathalyser offence


Sheila Darlene White, 50, of Brooklyn Corner, was fined and sentenced to probation for having the care or control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

White pleaded guilty on June 23. Tufts fined her $1,560, sentenced her to nine months of probation and imposed a one-year driving prohibition.

White committed the offence in Kentville on May 3. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. White gave breathalyser readings of 210 and 210.
