Rash of cottage break ins over last few weeks

If someone broke into your cottage and police had no fingerprints or witnesses, what would you do?

Wendy Fortune’s answer: put an ad on Kijiji, of course.

The Digby woman’s ad received over 450 views in the first two days alone.

Someone broke into her cottage and seven others in the Doucetteville area sometime between Thursday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 18.

“I would like my outboard motor back for Christmas,” says Fortune. “It’s an older model but only has 30 hours on it. It’s like new. And the generator, too, of course.”

Judging by her inventive way of finding the culprits, it looks like they may have messed with the wrong woman.

Thieves used bolt cutters to open the gate to the property and a pry bar to open doors and windows.

They emptied drawers and dumped contents on the floor.

They also took some items from Fortune’s brother’s cottage next door.

The list of stolen items includes a grey 3.3 HP Johnson outboard motor grey in colour which is like new; an orange I Ducar 1200-watt generator; a .22 calibre pellet gun and two and a half boxes of .22 calibre shells; a small TV and lanterns.

RCMP took photographs, tire prints, boot prints, and are continuing to investigate.

They have no suspects at this time and are asking anyone with information to contact the Digby detachment at 245-2579 or Crimestoppers at 1800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit the website at
