The corners on Highway 103 in Granite Village claimed another transport-trailer on Aug. 31, forcing the closure of the highway intermittently throughout the day as the cargo was salvaged and the overturned truck removed.

Sable River Volunteer Fire Department Chief Todd Sisk said they were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m. RCMP and Emergency Health Services were already on site. The truck had been travelling west on the 103 when it went off the road by the Shelburne/Queens county line.

"I’m not sure what happened,” said Sisk. “Somehow he got on the shoulder and rolled over,” he said, adding that, to his knowledge, the driver escaped  with minor injuries. “That’s a very bad corner. We’re lucky no one was seriously hurt.”

The truck was carrying a cargo of just over 200 crates of lobsters.

“They (the crates) all stayed in the truck this time” and were able to be salvaged, Sisk said. “They got most of them back.”

Clearing the scene took until just after 3 p.m. Sisk said about eight members of the department responded to the call and remained on site directing traffic during the day.
