LIVERPOOL – Privateer Days isn’t just about pirates this year.

The Queens County Minor Hockey Association (QCMHA) is hosting the first annual Privateer Concrete Hockey Classic on June 23 as part of the Liverpool-based festival. The new event aims to promote the sport and physical fitness during the fun-filled Privateer Days weekend.

“Privateer Days weekend has always been for our community to come together and join in the festivities,” says Heidi Cook, chairwoman of the fundraising committee for QCMHA. “This hockey tournament offers another great day of fun during the festival for ages nine to 14-year-old boys and girls.”

The event will run from 1-8:30 p.m. on June 23 in the far parking lot at Queens Place Emera Centre, where 12 teams, playing three-on-three, will compete. Winning teams at each division will receive a banner.

Teams will be from atom, peewee and bantam levels (ages nine to 14) and will consist of a minimum of four players (three players plus a goalie) up to a maximum of seven players (six players plus a goalie). Registration fee is $250 per team.

“This is not only open to hockey players,” says Cook. “We encourage kids to make up a team come out play and have fun.”

All funds raised will go towards supporting the hockey association.
