WOLFVILLE – Leadership candidates hailing from communities spanning from Digby to Windsor were vying for the coveted title of Queen Annapolisa this year, but there can be only one.
Princess Canning Kendra Whitehead was crowned Queen Annapolisa LXXXVI during the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival’s coronation ceremony at Acadia University’s Convocation Hall May 25. The event featured a round of impromptu questions for the leadership candidates and enchanting live entertainment by the Valley Voices.
Whitehead, the 20-year-old daughter of Brad and Candace Dykens, graduated from Northeast Kings Education Centre in 2015. She then went on to study business administration at Kingstec. She enjoys volunteering within her community, and hopes to one day operate her own local business.
“I am so shocked to be honest… I am so honoured to be given the opportunity to represent the entire Valley,” said Whitehead, offering brief remarks and thanking the crowd for supporting the candidates at the conclusion of the coronation ceremony.
Princess Berwick Dakota Balsor was dubbed first lady-in-waiting and Princess Port Williams Johanna Gates is the second lady-in-waiting.
Twelve leadership candidates were in the running for the coveted Annapolisa sash: Brenda MacDonald Lona (Annapolis Royal), Brittany Ward (Aylesford), Balsor, Whitehead, Cassidy Coombs (Coldbrook), Claudia Crocker (Municipality of Digby), Laura Pelton (Hantsport), Katherine Waterbury (Kentville), Riley Rowan (Kingston), Jenna Seaboyer (New Minas), Gates, and Kate Burgess (Windsor).
