Winds of Change getting ready to cast actors in upcoming play

LIVERPOOL – Although Rock of Ages won’t hit the Astor Theatre’s stage until next November, the Winds of Change Dramatic Society is already getting ready for its next show.
The Winds of Change is set to hold auditions Feb. 1 from 6-8 p.m., Feb. 3 from 1-3 p.m. and Feb. 4 from 1-3 p.m.
“We’re looking for anyone who just wants to participate,” said Kallie Koliotassis, one of the show’s directors.
People should be prepared to sing O’ Canada and a song of their choice that highlights their vocal abilities at the audition. There’s also a bit of dialogue that those auditioning will read from.
The Winds of Change is also looking for four or five musicians – people who can play guitar and drums.
Once auditions wrap up, the Winds of Change will make a decision about callbacks. Koliotassis, one of the show’s directors, says callbacks should be decided by Feb. 7. She is co-directing with Hannah McKinnon.
“We want to have a day for callbacks where we can get to know everyone a little bit better,” said Koliotassis.
At the time of the callback, Koliotassis says she’ll also determine who should be cast in what role. There should be a cast list ready by Feb. 14, she added.
Koliotassis anticipates rehearsals will be starting some time in March. Things are getting going early because there will be a lot for actors to learn, including songs and lines.
“Our plan is to take a break over the summer and then come back in September and do more intensive rehearsals,” she said.
Koliotassis most recently directed Honeymoon at the Graveside Manor in November, and before that – last March – she did midsummer.com. She’s also directed plays at South Queens Middle School. She says Honeymoon at Graveside Manor was her first adult production.
Koliotassis also serves as the artistic director on the board of directors for the Winds of Change. Co-director McKinnon is the vice-president on the board.
About Rock of Ages
“It takes place in the 80s,” Koliotassis says about the show.
Rock of Ages features a love story between two of the younger characters who have have gone to Los Angeles in search of fame. Instead, they end up working in bar – the Bourban Room. And then things “go awry for them,” explained Koliotassis.
Also in the show is a German guy who would like to buy the entire strip and tear down the bar. Another character is strongly protesting the German. It’s an adult-themed show, she says, but adds that “it’s comedic as well.”
She said the Winds of Change is always looking for additional community support. Extra stage crew members are always needed, she says, and once the show has begun, ushers are needed as well.
“I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Koliotassis said about directing the show.
