Star-studded wrestling tour to include show in Digby

Wrestling fans in Digby are in for a huge treat on Saturday night, April 26 when MainStream Wrestling Entertainment (MSW) explodes live at the Digby Arena. The show is part of MSW’s annual spring tour, the largest independent pro wrestling tour in the country today, which will travel all throughout Atlantic Canada. The tour is historic in the sense that it will include Labrador for the first time and features the most star-studded line-up for any tour in MSW history.

Owner and promoter Devin Chittick, who wrestles as “X-Ray” Kyle Kruze, says he has strong ties to Digby and it feels great to be bringing such a blockbuster line-up to town. The four-time former Atlantic Canadian Champion said the fans in Digby have been spectacular over the past six years and he loves wrestling in front of them. He loves Digby and considers it his second backyard. “I have never been more excited myself about doing a tour here than I am for this one on April 26,” Chittick said, pointing out that the rest of the crew is all pumped-up as well. “History will be made at the Digby Arena that night with such a huge production.”

When MSW last visited Digby in August, Kruze won a “Money In The Bank” style ladder match that entitles him to a championship match in Digby at some point during the 2008 wrestling season. Chittick said he has thought about cashing in his championship opportunity on April 26 and there is a chance he will do so. However, he said it all depends on who holds which title when they arrive in Digby that night.

He said it’s an incredible effort to put such an elaborate tour together, but it’s his life’s passion. He spends every waking hour putting it all together and gets about three hours of sleep per night in the weeks leading up to a tour. He often gets sick from over-exhaustion and physical burnout from working such a ridiculous schedule. “I have to put everything else in my life on hold to make this work and make it a success,” he said. “The sacrifices are insurmountable.”

Chittick said this would be the biggest show MSW has ever brought to Digby. In a rather shocking development, former ECW star and two-time former WWE World Women’s Champion Jazz has signed-on to compete. International female sensation Portia Perez is scheduled to appear as well.

Jazz had always dreamed of becoming the women’s world champion -- and becoming world champion is what every wrestler dreams of. She points out that she never lost the title in the ring: she was stripped of it.

Jazz said she loves wrestling for independent promotions because she can be herself and have more fun. To her, that is more important than anything and she wants to put on a good show. The only difference to her, compared to wrestling for the WWE, is that there aren’t 30,000 people in the building for an independent show. She is still very aggressive but says fans in Atlantic Canada would see a different side of her in the ring. “When I go out there, it’s game time,” she said. “I face every opponent the same.”

The line-up also includes the legendary Doink the Clown, long-time Maritime main-eventer “Kowboy” Mike Hughes (a former WWE performer and national TV star on The Fight Network’s Wrestling Reality), the current Atlantic Canadian Champion Sidewalk Sam and his manager, Papi, “Lumber” Jack Johnson and Transformer Shockwave The Robot. The MSW champion, the seven-foot tall, 302-pound Giant Grimez, is scheduled to defend his championship against long-time MSW star and former WWE performer Quinson Valentino. “Captain” Kirk will be the ring announcer.

Advance tickets are available at the arena and cost $12 for ringside, $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. Admission is payable at the door the night of the event as well.
