“We are feeling the significance of having reached our 25th anniversary year this 2017,” says manager Kelly Marie Redcliffe. “As we expand this Saturday, adding our outdoor courtyard with some outdoor vendors and an outdoor stage, we recall that for most of our 25 years, all of our vendors spent eight months of the year outdoors.”
It is interesting to recall, she says, “that we started with three vendors in the parking lot of the Robie Tufts in 1992; and we are honoured to have seen steady growth over the years thanks to so many passionate and inspiring people and organizations within a dedicated and positive community.”
Over the next year, Redcliffe says, “we hope to share with you some of our stories of thanks; stories that illuminate some of the people, organizations, and moments that have helped bring us to this present.
While the market is celebrating its past, the manager notes, “it is the future that excites us. We cannot but continue to blaze a trail forward. With that in mind, we have a number of major projects on the horizon this year including the launch of WFM2Go, which is a new online store and weekly delivery service that we are starting in July with over ten vendors and Community Hubs in Canning and Berwick and at the market itself, where people can pick up their orders. “
Redcliffe adds that “the website for this project is being built as we speak and will be ready for viewing within a month.”
In addition, according to Redcliffe, the market has decided that its 25th anniversary project will be to start the process of raising an endowment of $100,000 in support of our Market Food Bucks Project.”
This effort provides ‘market money’ to help 20 low income families participate in the market as consumers for ten weeks each year.
“Participants get connected to their local community, meet farmers, and get to choose fresh local ingredients. We will be working with the Rotary Club of Wolfville as well as other community partners on this project.” And we will also be working with interested wealth managers to help us find those looking to support a project like this through their investment portfolio or through their wills.
To help commemorate this year, Laura MacDonald of the ECMA award-winning Deep Hollow Print, will be creating a limited edition print and a special commemorative poster and card, which Redcliffe says will be sold at the information booth this summer.
But it’s not just our anniversary year, she adds, “it is just another year too, with all the usual steadfast goodness. We are pleased that the Wednesday Community Market and Supper returns starting this Wednesday, May 17 (4 – 7 p.m.) until Christmas.”
As the market shifts into the new season, the manager suggests, it is worth recalling some accomplishments from the past year including the installation of the new ware washing facility.
“This coming year the Wolfville Farmers’ Market is hoping to continue with infrastructure improvements that could include a new roof, solar panels and heat pumps depending on how successful we are with grants. “

The market started in 1992 with three vendors in a parking lot and is now a year-round market on Saturdays with over 60 farmers, chefs and artisan vendors with a Wednesday Market from May until Christmas. In 2010, a turn of the century apple warehouse was transformed into a 9,000-square-foot market home.
