WINDERMERE - Tanya Buckler saw her retirement as the perfect opportunity to start a small, home-based business.

“I don’t want to sit back and rock in the rocking chair. I just want to keep busy,” the Windermere resident said in a recent interview.

She retired after working for Sobeys for more than 33 years, and started Tanya B’s Goats Milk Soap and Things about a year ago.

Buckler admits the business isn’t likely to put big bucks in the bank, but it keeps her occupied.

“I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t enjoy it,” she said.

Buckler makes all-natural goat’s milk soap in a variety of lightly scented and unscented forms. Some fan favourites include: lavender, peach-mango, coffee, bubblegum, activated charcoal, plain oatmeal, lemongrass and chocolate mint.

She sells the soap, homemade bath bombs, hand-stamped key stamps as well as VOXX socks and insoles out of her home. The VOXX products are designed to help with such things as balance, respiratory control, posture, heart rate and pain regulation and range of motion.

Buckler turned to YouTube to learn how to make the goat’s milk soap and hand-crafted keychain charms from home. The longtime Berwick-area resident is pleased with the community’s response to her products.

“My neighbours are pretty supportive,” she said.

“People like it and I have people coming back.”
