BRIDGEWATER – “For anybody who knows me, they will tell you I am always trying to root out a good deal,” says Jessica Fancy-Landry.
The Bridgewater woman says she wants to help other folks on the South Shore do the same thing – keep more of their hard earned money in their own pockets. This is one of the motivating factors behind the decision she and her husband, Paul Landry, made recently to purchase the PropertyGuys.com South Shore franchise.
PropertyGuys.com differs from a regular real estate agent, says Fancy-Landry. The program costs much less than using a traditional agent, and instead of commission, it charges an affordable flat fee that's not affected by the selling price. It also gives home sellers a customizable marketing plan that suits their needs.
“You’ll get a bold round lawn sign, a detailed listing, online management tools, and lots more. And when your property sells, we collect absolutely nothing. Not a penny,” says Fancy-Landry.
Part of marketing the business, says Fancy-Landry, is educating the public. She says people might not know that the listing can be placed not only on the PropertyGuys.com website and social media, but also on Realtor.ca (MLS), Facebook, Kijiji, and Viewpoint.ca. PropertyGuys.com also has legal, mortgage, photography and appraisal service options.
“We are looking forward to getting the word out about PropertyGuys.com and helping people on the South Shore sell their houses and save money,” says Fancy-Landry.
Currently a math and science teacher at Bayview Community School in Mahone Bay, Fancy-Landry says she has been around small businesses since she was a child, as her parents owned a small trucking business and later got into farming.
Her husband currently works with the quality group at the Bridgewater Michelin plant and previously completed a UN Peacekeeping tour in Israel. Landry, says his wife, was exposed to the real estate business through his mother, who worked as an agent for several years. Together, Landry and Fancy-Landry have experience with renovating houses and managing rental properties.
The couple is also heavily involved with the community. Fancy-Landry is a member of several school committees and has coached many teams, while Landry has volunteered with both coaching and managing several of the teams their three children have been involved with on the South Shore.
The couple says they are looking forward to taking on this business venture together.
“Paul and I have been working as a team to raise three kids for over ten years now,” she says. “We are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish as a family. We have taken on many projects in the past and are looking to apply the lessons we have learned to the business.”
The plan is to continue their full-time employment this year while continuing to build the brand. With Landry planning on retiring in a few years, and between his shiftwork and Fancy-Landry being able to work during the summers, they will continue to keep the PropertyGuys.com business as a side hustle.
Fancy-Landry says she tells her students to find out what they love to do, whether it be a hobby or passion and try to make some money at it. There is only stress if you do not like what you are doing, she said.
“This makes me happy to be a South Shore girl,” she adds.
She says they feel that PropertyGuys.com is on the right side of technology and ties directly into people’s desire to "do it yourself” and save money. PropertyGuys.com gives people the tools to do just that.
“Community and family are very important to Paul and I, and we cannot wait to share what PropertGuys.com has to offer with our neighbours along the South Shore.”
