The event, one of three simultaneous ‘Mashup Weekend’ sessions happening at NSCC campuses, involves three working groups developing some diverse business ideas.

Kingstec event facilitator Mike Caplan said one group is working on a project involving silk-screening t-shirts and other products, aiming to raise awareness of firefighting. Another is working on what Caplan referred to as a project modeled after 10,000 Villages with the goal of supporting local community organizations. The third is working on a creative community space initiative that would see people of different ages and backgrounds collaborating on building new, technologically innovative items.

Caplan said the Kingstec event runs up to 10 p.m. tonight, Nov. 22. Tomorrow, Nov. 23, the event continues from 10 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. The three groups will be presenting their business initiatives to the judges at 5:30 p.m. and a first-place prize will be awarded.

The other events are underway in Bridgewater and Yarmouth. Mashup chief executive officer Andrew Button plans to visit all three venues over the course of the weekend.
