Cruise ship bypasses Shelburne due to weather
After weeks of planning and getting ready, the cruise ship Balmoral sailed right by Shelburne on Sunday morning to the disappointment of many.

The ship and its 1,300 passengers were scheduled to spend the day in Shelburne, but the visit was cancelled Sunday morning as heavy rains and high winds hit the area.

Shelburne Mayor Al Delaney said the decision while understandable was a major disappointment.

“The only thing we couldn’t control was the weather,” said Delaney. “We proved ready for it and I’m sure we learned a lot.”

The mayor said he was confident the town would receive more visits from cruise ships in the future as a result of its efforts.

The Balmoral was heading to Halifax after bypassing Shelburne.
