Basketball Mariners open with win over Avon View

It was a lopsided 73 – 30 victory to open a new season for the senior boys’ basketball team at Digby Regional High School.

Playing at home against the ‘B’ team from Avon View High School in Windsor, the DRHS Mariners quickly jumped into the lead, and went into half-time ahead 40 – 14.

Avon View, especially in the opening half, seemed unable to penetrate Digby’s defense and wasted many of its shots from well outside the key. The Mariners, in contrast, controlled the boards with Cory Saulnier and Jordan Cromwell capturing any loose balls.

Saulnier finished the game with 28 points, while Cromwell had 13 to lead the Mariners’ offence.

The large lead allowed Digby to use its full bench through the game.
