After nearly four decades serving Kentville as a police officer, bylaw enforcement officer, town councillor and in other capacities; his council peers have elected Bernie Cooper deputy mayor.

The former deputy mayor, Councillor Mark Pearl, nominated Cooper for the position following the swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected and re-elected councillors and the mayor at the Nov. 12 council session.

Kentville town councillors choose a deputy mayor from amongst their ranks. The term is for one year. Cooper was the only councillor nominated for the position. He accepted the nomination and his peers supported him unanimously.

“I’ll work hard to do my best for the citizens of Kentville,” Cooper said following his election.

He is looking forward to serving as deputy mayor and he was very proud all his colleagues supported his nomination, voting in favour of the motion.

“I was glad I got everybody’s support,” he said.

Cooper said he would work very hard to keep up to the standard set by his predecessor.
