Environmental Alert
Letter to The Annapolis County Spectator
Dear Editor:
Why is it that one town has implemented a no-idling bylaw to protect citizens from environmental pollutants, while its neighboring County of Annapolis is allowing a citizen to develop a stock car racetrack in the residential community of Melvern Square. A stock car racetrack will certainly create environmental pollutants and enormous environmental concerns for the residents living in this area.
As residents of this community, we are appalled that Annapolis County council and its councilors have yet to step up to their environmental responsibilities for this community. In addition, why is the provincial government and its departments, such as Health and Environment, not stepping up to the plate to prevent further toxic elements being released into our environment, only to be ingested by the residents of this community and province?
It’s time that the provincial and municipal governments take action to protect their province, counties, and residents. We need to learn from our neighboring communities and address environmental pollutants whenever possible.
