A look at federal election results
Overall election results for the October 14 vote left Stephen harper's Conservatives in a minority position, with 143 seats (37.63 per cent of the total vote). He needed 155 to take the majority.
The Liberals took 76 seats across the country (26.24 per cent of the total vote).
The Bloc won 50 seats, all in Quebec, with 9.97 per cent of the total vote.
Jack Layton's NDP won 37 seats (18.20 per cent of the total vote).
There were two independent candidates elected (with just 0.65 per cent of the total vote).
The Green Party captured 6.8 per cent of the ttal vote, but was left seatless.
Other parties split 0.51 per cent of the vote.
