‘Sick’ cemetery vandalism in Centreville
BY WENDY ELLIOTT

Kings County Register

RCMP are investigating property damage to headstones at the Serenity Gardens Cemetery on Sherman Belcher St. in Centreville.

Fifteen headstones were knocked over and several were broken sometime Friday evening, Oct. 3.

Jean Greene went to the cemetery Saturday, October 4, which would have been her 50th wedding anniversary, to visit her husband, Vincent’s, grave.

“When I drove in, I couldn’t see the headstones. I was just sick. They’d all been pushed over.”

Greene’s family has a plot with four headstones in one area. Three were tipped.

“I’ll have to get his fixed. It’s heartbreaking,” she says of the mischief she counted done to 25 headstones.

She believes this is the second incident of vandalism at the cemetery, and suspects it is linked to graffiti appearing at the post office and on other buildings in Centreville recently.

RCMP are asking for the public's assistance with any information about this incident. Contact the RCMP in New Minas at 679-5555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
