RCMP respond to Yarmouth school following concerns of suspicious activity
Grade 10 student arrested
A call was received at the Yarmouth Town Detachment of suspicious activity at the Yarmouth Junior High School early this afternoon.
The information provided was that a grade 10 student from the high school was in the Junior High School attending classes and had with him what was described as a “possible hand gun.”
Plain clothes officers of the RCMP Yarmouth Town Detachment were sent into the school to investigate.
Once the student in question was located in a classroom in
the junior high the RCMP members arrested this youth without incident.
The RCMP located a plastic “pellet gun“ on this youth and seized it. During this incident the police ordered a lock down of the Yarmouth high school, for the safety of the community, until senior officers on the scene were satisfied that the situation was under control.
A 17-year-old youth was questioned and has been released.
Investigation into this incident is continuing by the General
Investigation Section at the Yarmouth Town Detachment .

Comment online since October 31st 2008I really feel that the paper should do a story about the playing of loud car stereos and loud bass. This is a serious problem in the town of Yarmouth that i have been fighting for over a year now.I called the town police about this and they said they do not want to get involved with this. i feel they are intimidated.I believe that court action is the only way to get a bylaw passed and for people to know that i am serious about this. Many people in town are being affected by this but are too afraid to speak up.A bylaw needs to be in place and enforced.
