A 44-year-old Yarmouth County man has been charged with arson in connection with a house fire that occurred in South Ohio on Sunday.
James McGray appeared before a judge this week. He has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance on Monday, Oct. 6.
The fire took place at civic address 1391 on Route 340.
Constable Francois Levesque of the Yarmouth rural RCMP detachment says McGray placed a 911 call to the fire department to report the structure fire on Sunday, Sept. 28.
“It was just a house fire, nobody was injured,” said Const. Levesque. “He was the only occupant of the house at the time.”
The Yarmouth fire department was alerted to the fire via a 911 call at 12:15 on Sunday. Fire chief Ken Kelly said it took the department an hour and a half to bring the blaze under control.
The scene was turned over to the RCMP around 4 p.m.
Const. Levesque said McGray was arrested Sunday and charged with arson on Monday. That is the only charge is he facing in relation to the fire.
The RCMP officer added that the fire marshal has also investigated the blaze.
