Mariners dump winless Tigers

The Yarmouth Mariners (3-1-0-0) dumped the Restigouche Tigers (0-4-0-0) 7-1 Friday night in Campbellton.



Michael Best led the Mariners with a pair of goals and three assists while Ryan Nickerson added two goals and an assist.



Best opened the scoring at 4:31 to give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. Cody Lefrancois (powerplay, game winner) scored at 7:05 to extend the lead to 2-0. Best (powerplay, second goal of game) scored at 17:25 to increase the lead to 3-0. Chad Loewen (unassisted) scored at 18:48 to cut the lead to 3-1 after the first period. Julien Payne scored at 18:50 to regain the 3 goal lead at 4-1 after the second period. Nickerson (powerplay) scored at 3:04 to extend the lead to 5-1. Jordan Scott scored at 4:15 to widen the lead to 6-1. Nickerson (unassisted powerplay, second goal of game) rounded out the scoring at 6:48.



Yarmouth went 4 for 7 on the powerplay while Restigouche went 0 for 3.



Justin Collier stopped 32 of 33 shots for the win while Nicholas Spears stopped 24 of 31 shots in the loss.
