Broomball league excited for 5th season
Coming off a couple of highly successful years, the Berwick Broomball League is heading into its fifth season of action.
Organizer Charlie Cox says the league’s Berwick Tsunami, winners of the Nova Scotia provincial title for the past two years, was thrilled with its acknowledgement at the Berwick Sports Hall of Fame’s annual induction and recognition ceremony in June, but there is work ahead to make sure there’s a three-peat.
“We’re looking for players for all six league teams - they’re all in place, but we have room for up to 15 people on a team,” he says.
Teams represent communities from Wolfville to Lawrencetown, and all games are back-to-back at the Berwick Arena Sunday evenings, at 8:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Men and women, and interested youth, are welcome to join the league.
A league organizing meeting will be held in the next week, with play getting underway October 12. For information, contact Cox, 538-9813. Gear requirements are minimal, and the cost to play is generally $10 per game for ice rentals and game fees.
The 2009 provincials will be held in Kentville next March.
