Plane crashes in Kennetcook
Local firefighting crews along with RCMP units from Enfield and Indian Brook responded to a call concerning a plane crash in Kennetcook during the late afternoon hours of Monday Sept. 8.
Enfield RCMP Staff Sergeant Murray Urquhart said a man tried to land his single-engine ultra-light plane when it lost power instead, veered into a residential power line and crashed. “We can’t release a name…” he said. “He was from Shubenacadie… a man in his 50s.”
There will be no criminal charges resulting from the crash, but the Federal Transportation and Safety Board (FTSB) investigators were later called in to help determine an exact cause for the accident, Urquhart said. “The plane suffered severe damage… But (there were) no serious injuries to the pilot.”
There was a good response from everyone involved at the scene of the crash, Urquhart noted. “The Kennetcook Volunteer Fire Department really should be applauded for their actions.
“The fire crews had a timely response and they had things well in hand.” Urquhart added.
