Three of four school board seats in Yarmouth County being contested
Of the four seats on the Tri-County Regional School Board in Yarmouth County, three are being contested.
Winnie Surette, who holds a seat in the town of Yarmouth, is the only Yarmouth County incumbent not being challenged in the upcoming Oct. 18 election.
In the Municipality of Argyle/Yarmouth incumbent Ron Hines, the sitting vice-chair of the board, is being challenged by Kerry Munro.
In the Municipality of Yarmouth incumbent Anne Moses is being challenged by Dolores Atwood.
Incumbent Joan Brewer, whose seat covers parts of the town and municipality, is being challenged by Lynn Doucette.
Another seat that voters in Yarmouth County may vote on, if they are entitled to do so, is the African Nova Scotian member on the school board. For this seat incumbent Michael Alden Fells is being challenged by Doris Stephenson. Both candidates live in Digby.
Anyone casting a vote in the school board election can only one for one seat on the board.
Of the remaining board seats in Shelburne and Digby Counties, four members of the board have been returned by acclamation. This includes the sitting chair Faye Haley, along with Donna Tidd, Alvin Comeau and Nick Pippy. In the municipality of Barrington, incumbent Robie Atkinson is being challenged by Andrea Huskilson-Newell and Murdock Forsythe.
Board member Janice Francis has been reappointed as the board’s aboriginal representative.
As for the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial, the Acadian school board elects three members from the Municipality of Argyle. All three incumbents are back in by acclamation. They include Donald Doucette, Jeanelle d’Entremont and Donald Jacquard.
