Hello, everyone. Where did the summer go? If you find it, let me know because the past week has felt a lot like autumn weather. I think with the rain it was blink and summer was gone. You know what that means; school days are close at hand.

The card party for Aug. 19 had another great turnout with 11 tables in attendance. The ladies’ first prize went to Jean Spinney. Helen Hutt won ladies’ second while Tracey Pick won the ladies’ low for the evening.

Gents’ first went to John Griffiths and Howard Coldwell won gents’ second. Dick Weir won the gents’ low prize.

Mary Coldwell won the door prize and Howard Coldwell took the traveler. The 50/50 prize went to Ken Long.

Both Ken Long and John Griffiths returned their winnings to the hall. The prizes were donated by Freeman and Violet Levy as well as Dick and Marie Weir. Everyone had a great time.

Don’t forget, the White Rock Community Association will have itsmonthly meeting Aug. 27. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Happy birthday to Wayne Stevens, who will celebrate Aug. 27. Gavin Burrows (Larry Pick’s grandson) will celebrate his birthday Aug. 28 and Joe McInnis celebrates his birthday Aug. 30. Birthday wishes also go out to Shirley Carter and Doreen Arnburg, who are both celebrating Aug. 28, and Leslie Ells will celebrate Aug. 30.

Happy anniversary to Tanya and Bruce Hoyt, who will celebrate August 30.

Don’t forget as well about the Schoolhouse Café Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. at the Black River hall. Free will offering.

Hockey registration took place Aug. 23 so if anyone missed it and would still like to register, contact the Acadia Minor Hockey Association and see if you can still get in. You can also check them out online. There are lots of hockey camps as well as a learn-to-skate camp.

Fall registration for swimming lessons at Acadia University takes place Sept. 13 starting at 8:30 a.m. You can register in person or by phone (542-5500). There are private and group lessons available for various levels with the first lesson starting Sept. 20.

I think that’s it for now. Have a great week everyone and remember; the first day of school for Gaspereau Elementary is Sept. 4. You can go online at www.avrsb.ednet.ns.ca to look up the start times for other schools in the Annapolis Valley area.
