Cunningham, Daniel LeRoy - 61, of Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Liverpool, he was the son of Edith (Woodworth) Cunningham and the late Clarence Cunningham. He worked for 35 years at Steel and Engines, Liverpool, as a foreman in the labor department. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Jessica. Danny was a big sports fan; he especially enjoyed watching his two favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. He was a member of the South Shore Draft Pony Association. He is survived by his son Derrick (Debbie) Boudreau, of Liverpool; granddaughter Jessica; step daughter Debra Spinney, of Durham, Ontario; stepsons Raymond Boudreau, Barry (Joyce) Boudreau, both of Milton; five step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; sisters Rosemarie Haines, of Mahone Bay, Judy Cunningham (Randy Himmelman), of Bridgewater, Valerie Flemming, of Milton, Carolyn (Donnie) McCulloch, of Prince Rupert, B.C., Leanda (George) Francis, of Milton; brothers Glenn (Janice), of Bridgewater, John (Brenda), of Milton, Stephen, of Prince Rupert, Sterling (Jocelyn), of Vancouver Island; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his companion of many years, Myrtle Boudreau; sister Shirley; brother Clarence in infancy. MACNAB (Douglas), Aretha Belle – 86, Armdale, died on July 29, 2008 in the Transitional Care Unit, Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. Born on September 7, 1921 in Port Joli, Aretha was the only child of the late Clayton Douglas and the late Brenda Douglas Page. Aretha is survived by her three daughters, Anne (Charles) Jenkins, Lunenburg, MA USA; Beth MacNab, Toronto; and Linda (Paul) McCormick, Armdale; grandchildren Caren Jenkins, Lunenburg, MA USA; Chris (Keith) Paquet, Fitchburg, MA USA; Paige, Kelsey and Bob McCormick, Armdale; great-grandchildren Kelly and Nicholas Paquet, Fitchburg, MA USA; half-sisters Jean Emily Coote, Mahone Bay, Lillian Hodder, Halifax, Laurie Taylor, Halifax, Bertie Guy, Ottawa; half-brother Fred (Joan) Page; nephews Michael and David Page and niece Wanda Page, all of Sandy Point. She will be truly missed by her extended family of Northfield Road, Queens County, David (Carey), Britany and Briana Delong. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Bob in 2003. Aretha worked for Simpson Sears Ltd. and sold Avon products door-to-door during World War II. Later in life, she was assistant manager of the Anglican Diocese Book Room, Halifax, for 18 years. Aretha and Bob instilled a very real sense of community and caring to family, friends and neighbours alike. Family would like to extend thanks to the home care staff of RJF Health Care, units 8.2 and 8.4 of the New Halifax Infirmary and the staff of Transitional Care at the VG Hospital for their compassionate care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax with private burial. Aartje Posthuma (1939-2008) - 69, New Minas, formerly of Grand Pre, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 27, 2008, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a long illness. Born in Holland, she made her home in Canada in 1957. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. For many years she was the owner of Shady Lanes Kennels, Grand Pre, and spent many years breeding, showing and grooming dogs. Her love of animals never left her. She loved music and in her younger years was involved in many choirs. Aartje is survived and will be sadly missed by sister, Meep, Holland; daughters, Johanna (Ed),Ontario; Margaret, Gaspereau; Sylvia, Wolfville; sons, Peter (Lisa), Grand Pre; John, Alberta; grandchildren, Tosha, Brianna, and Cody. Lena Mary Amero - 89, born October 3, 1918, passed away peacefully at the Digby General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on July 28, 2008. Born in Plympton Station she was a daughter of the James and Ann (Smith) Amero. She was a devout catholic, parishIoner and member of the choir at the Plympton Holy Cross Catholic Church. She loved her flowers and people would often stop to admire her rose bushes. She was a hard worker picking apples early in life and later working in the clam factory until she retired. She is survived by her sons Stanley, (Deep Brook) David (Plympton) and Darrell (Plympton) and daughter Doreen (Digby). Lena had 14 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great, Great, Grandchild. She is pre-deceased by her son Stuart Amero and her daughter Delores Amero and her husband Gerald Amero. Mildred Ann "Mig" Haley (Keddy) - 67, Mount Denson, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, she was a daughter of Myrna and Grant (Buss) Keddy. Mildred was a long time member of the Grand Pre Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Mildred enjoyed caring for her family, looking after her home and gardening in her flower beds. She spent much time with personal study of the Bible and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others. She was extremely fond of music and played the guitar. Mildred worked for many years as a secretary for various government offices, including the Kentville Experimental Farm and then decided to stay home with her growing family. She is survived by her husband, Laurence; daughters, Leanna McDonald (Adam), Avonport; Nadia, Mia, and son, Keith, all at home; brothers, Malcolm (Betty) Keddy, Walbrook; Owen (Debbie), Cambridge; sister, Shirley (Michael) McNeil, Lockhartville. Mildred was predeceased by her father Grant "Buss" Keddy; sister, Joan Faulkner (Quesnel, B.C.); several aunts and uncles. ADAMS, Arnold James - 61, Falmouth, passed away on July 30, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born March 24, 1947, in Dublin Shore, he was a son of the late Arnold and Thelma (Frank) Adams. Arnold was known by many people as "Arnie" or "Sonny". He was a stationary engineer for many years. He owned a taxi business that he drove for. He had a great love of reading, the water and boating. Arnie was well-liked by those he met. He was a devoted friend to Bill W. Surviving are best friend and soul mate, Linda Rafters, Falmouth; daughter, Kymberlee Adams, Yarmouth; son, Robert Adams, New Minas; grandson, Colin James Adams, Yarmouth; granddaughter, Sara Alicia Grant, Yarmouth; stepchildren, Tanya and Holly; stepgrandchildren, Cole, Ryder, and Brianna. Born in Yarmouth on August 16, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Kay and Jack Rogers. Jackie retired from the Department of Transportation two years ago, where she was an accountant. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid knitter. DeVILLER, Thomas Albert "Tom" - 93, Villa St. Joseph du Lac, Dayton, Yarmouth Co., formerly of Hebron, passed away July 30, 2008, in the Villa, with family members by his side. He was born January 16, 1915, in Yarmouth, a son of the late John Russell DeViller and Geneveve "Nellie" (Doucette). He is survived by daughters, Adrienne Speck, Yarmouth; Darlene (Martin) Brown, Burlington, Ont.; Meredith (Gregory) Dease, Yarmouth; sons, Darryl (Sharon), Yarmouth; Richard (Louise), Halifax; grandchildren, Krista (David) Clarke, Dr. Darren (Katrina) DeViller, Tamara (Leeman) Cottreau, Adam DeViller, Jessica DeViller, Hilary Brown, Allison Brown; great-grandsons, Ryan and Sean Clarke, and Nolan Cottreau. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (2004); brothers, Edgar and Earl, sisters, Lillian Jeffery and Charlotte (Oscar) Boudreau. He was a proud veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Red Patch 1st Canadian Division Signal Corps in England, Sicily, Italy, North Africa and the Northwest European Campaign. Following the war he remained in service as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 84th Independent Field Battery. He was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth, having served in many of the officer positions and also Poppy Chairman, Parade Commander and Branch Photographer. He was also Branch Delegate to Provincial and Dominion Conventions, and was a four-time president. He was awarded the highest Royal Canadian Legion Award, the Palm Leaf to Meritorious Service Medal. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he worked as Chief Engineer at Bonda Foods Ltd. Visitation took place Friday, August 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Legion service at 7:30 p.m. and prayers at 8 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Main Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held Saturday, August 2, at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Cathedral, 43 Albert St., Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Donald Graham Harvey - 80, Wolfville, formerly from Grand Pré, passed away on the July 31, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. He was the son of the late Phyllis and Graham Harvey (Grand Pré). Donald graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1947 after having completed the Advanced Farm Course. He ran the family farm in Grand Pré until his retirement in 1976. After his retirement he continued to work, farming and repairing machinery until 1993 for Fred Trenholm, his former neighbor and friend. In retirement he enjoyed his family, friends, watching plants grow, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Greta (Hunter); sister, Helene (Lloyd) Illsley, Guelph; sons, Brian, Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, and Lynn (Laurie), Banff; daughters, Natalie and Heather, both of Halifax; grandchildren, Natasha and Alexander, Banff, and six nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank their many supportive friends and dedicated health care workers. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 24, at 2 p.m. in Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré, followed by a reception celebrating Donald’s life at the Wolfville Lions Club on Elm Avenue. CHURCHILL, Eliza Katherine passed away peacefully at the QHC-Trenton Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of Bill Churchill of Trenton. STEWART, Edith Regine - passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta, on Friday, August 1, 2008, at the age of 83 years, beloved wife to the late Everette J. Boudreau who predeceased her in 1971. She is survived by her loving children, Eileen Boudreau of Coaldale; David (Susan) Boudreau of Wedgeport; Ron (Shirley) Boudreau of Vulcan. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jesse, Donald, Carol, Lisa, Dulcie, David and Amanda; 11 great grandchildren, Megan, Jamie, David, Matthew, Callie, Madeline, Colby, Teri, Kira, Shandel and Kaitlyn. Edith is predeceased by an infant son and two infant daughters; and a beloved grandson David Jr. She is predeceased by her second husband Walter Stewart of Vulcan in 1980. Born on April 1, 1925 in Lower Clark's Harbour, Nova Scotia, Edith was raised and educated at Clark's Harbour. She married Everette in 1944 and together they raised their family in Wedgeport. Edith worked as a seamstress for many years in Yarmouth, NS. Following Everette's death in February of 1971, the family moved to Calgary where she continued to work as a seamstress. She moved to Vulcan in 1972 where she worked at the Parkland Nursing home as a caregiver. In 1991 she retired to Lethbridge where she has resided until the time of her passing. A funeral service was held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Martin Bros. Riverview Chapel, Lethbridge, AB, after which she was transferred to H. M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Wedgeport, where visitation was held from 6-9 PM Thursday. A committal service and interment followed at 2 PM, on Friday, August 8 at Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery, Wedgeport, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Thibeault, Rene – 84, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Moncton City Hospital with his family by his side after a lengthy illness. He was a truck driver most of his life which he loved doing. He worked for East Side Fisheries, Sealife and Clarence Amiro in Pubnico. He was the husband of Betty Thibeault, father of Julie (Ralph), grandfather to Mandy and Kirk and great-grandfather to Ashley. Rene resided in Moncton, NB, but was formerly of Baie Ste. Anne, NB, and also resided in Pubnico, NS for many years. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, August 6 at 4 p.m. from Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church in Baie Ste. Anne, NB. DuLONG (BLANCHARD), Estella Ann – 91, Yarmouth, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born August 29, 1916 in Bell Neck, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Ann (Melanson) Blanchard. Estella enjoyed shopping at Frenchy’s, quilting and listening to country music. Surviving are her children, Roy (Juanita) DuLong, Tahsis, BC; Eugene (Marion) DuLong and Florine (Charles) Williams, both of Yarmouth; Carol Newell (Danny McDonald), Melbourne; Debby (Skip) Hershey, Chegoggin; grandchildren, John, who was also her caregiver; Debbie, Pam, Brian, Kim, Nancy, Randy, Angie and Stella Ann; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Lillian Muise and Hazel Stuart, both of Yarmouth. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bernie DuLong; a son, Kenneth DuLong; brothers, Alvin, Joseph, Bernie and Danny; a sister, Cerita Swanson. Visitation took place from 7-9 Tuesday evening with prayers at 8 PM, both in H M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. SWIM, Albert "Victor" - 76, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on August 2, 2008. Born at the home of his parents, he was the only son of Albert Victor Swim and Carrie May (Rodney) Swim. He was predeceased by his parents and his only sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Stephens. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Marilyn Codner; sons, Andrew (Marie) Swim, Michael (Liezl) Swim; daughters, Eileen Kelly, Vivian Swim, Joanne (Henry) Landry, Pamela Swim. He also leaves grandchildren, Colleen and Leah Barteaux, Jason, Ryan (Rhonda) and Janine Cameron, Aaron, Aidan, MacKenzie and Caitlin Swim and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At the time of his death he was employed with Gateway Realty. He was also a dedicated member of Hebron Baptist Church as well as the Gideons. CLEVELAND, Joyce Elizabeth - Annapolis Royal. After a short and courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully and with dignity on August 2, 2008, in the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal, at the age of 69. Born in Saint John, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Winnifred (Teare) Mawhinney, formerly of Maces Bay, N.B. Joyce graduated from Eastern Charlotte Regional School, St. George, N.B. and Teachers College, Fredericton, N.B. She taught in Black's Harbour, N.B.; Rothesay, N.B.; Devon, N.B.; Central Kings, Cambridge; Bridgewater, and Annapolis Royal from where she retired after teaching 35 years. Upon retirement, she and Karl spent several winters in Florida where she enjoyed meeting with her friends and doing water aerobics. She loved to cook, garden and curl. She was a member of the St. Mary's Anglican Church, Belleisle, as well was the treasurer of St. Mary's Cemetery Fund. She is survived by her husband, Karl; stepmother, Joan Mawhinney, Saint John, N.B.; sister, Pat (Rod) Shewchuk, Kenora, Ont.; brothers, Keith (Joanne), Chipman, N.B., and Clyde "Bud" (Lydie), Fredericton, N.B.; two aunts and two uncles; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two god children. She was predeceased by aunt, Doreen Snow. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal, where visitation was held Tuesday, August 5. Victorine Dorothy “Vicki” Morine - 83, Hortonville. It is with great sadness that the family of Victorine announces her passing. Vicki passed away peacefully on August 2, 2008, in the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Loretta (Blauveldt) Doucette. Vicki had a great love for country music. She was very fond of her pet budgies and canaries that she had given home to over the years. Vicki loved and will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Nicholas and Luke. Every new picture of them found its spot on the wall of her living room. Born in Oxford on July 14, 1922, he was the son of the late Alexander and Ida (Fraser) Ross. He was a retired Assistant Director and Head of the Crop Protection Section following a 36 year career at the Kentville Agricultural Research Station. He served for four years with the Royal Canadian Air Force, overseas during WWII during which he completed a tour of operations and served as bombing leader of #428 (Ghost) Squadron. He completed 36 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following the war, he studied plant pathology, receiving a diploma in agriculture from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College; BSC and MSC degrees from MacDonald College of McGill University and a PhD from the University of Western Ontario. He spent a year as visiting scientist at the East Malling Research Station, in Kent, England. The author of 47 research publications, he worked chiefly on tree fruit diseases with special emphasis on apples and pears. He worked closely with fruit growers on recommending and developing controls for plant diseases. He achieved a major breakthrough in cooperation with the late Dr. Keith Stewart on the movement of mercury fungicides in plants. He was a member of various scientific organizations and agricultural committees, a past president of the Canadian Phytopathological Society, past president and distinguished Senior Honorary Member of the Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists, and an honorary member of the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association. He was commanding officer of # 507 Kentville Air Cadet Squadron for several years, a long time member of the board of directors of the Valley Regional Hospital and the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Aircrew Association, Ken-Wo Golf & Country Club, Wolfville Curling Club and Kentville Gyro Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Waterbury; his son, Donald, Toronto Ont; daughter, Lynn (Douglas Pudsey), Lower Sackville; grandsons, Michael and Alexander. Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by sisters, Gwen O’Brien (twin), Gladys Creighton, Jeanette (in infancy); brother, Donald; half brothers, Clair and Victor. There was no visitation by the family’s request. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday August 5 in St. John’s Anglican Church, Wolfville. Rev. Cathy Lee Cunningham Ritcey officiating. ADAMS, Loraine Edgar, age 77, passed away in Tidal View Manor, with his wife at his side on Friday, August 1, 2008. He was born in Shag Harbour, August 15, 1930 to the late George and Louisa (Smith) Adams. For the past two and a half years he was a resident at the Manor, due to Parkinson’s disease. He was lovingly cared for by the exceptional staff. During his working years he was a lobster fisherman and school bus driver. Loraine was a member of the Philadelphia Masonic Lodge No. 47, Barrington Passage. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Hilda O’Connell; a daughter, Rosanne (Michel) Tanner; and grandson, Kyle, Mader’s Cove; son Timothy (Nelda), and granddaughter, Maria, Shag Harbour; sister, Beulah Keddy, Berwick; brother, Kendric (Deloris) Adams, Shag Harbour; brother-in-law, Howard Illsey, Aylesford; a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Olive (Eugene), Newell, Emma (Wilbert) Greenwood, Nellie Illsey, infant sister, Ruth; brother-in-law, Harold Keddy. The funeral service was held on August 4 from Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington, with Pastor Phil Williams and Rev. Lloyd Stewart officiating. Burial was in Old Farm Cemetery, Shag Harbour.

CHURCHILL, Eliza Katherine passed away peacefully at the QHC-Trenton Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the age of 84. Daughter of the late Andrew and Alma Bingay of Port Maitland. Beloved wife of Bill Churchill of Trenton. Loving mother of Steven Blackbird and his wife, Carole Laurie Meadows and her husband, Chris and Miss Janet Whynott. Eliza will be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren. Predeceased by her sister, Seretha O’Leary.
