There has been a lot of talk recently about the future growth and development of Port Williams and agricultural lands being made into subdivisions.
There are other development issues worthy of community input and discussion as well. Back in 2005, a visioning document was released and then this year the Municipality struck a community-based advisory committee to develop a draft Secondary Planning Strategy for the village.
The committee first met in March and consisted of municipal councillor Janet Newton, Village Commissioners Lewis Benedict, Doug Gates and Craig Newcombe, and four citizen members: Joe Hickman, Scott Leier, Richard Rand and Robin Whidden.
All of the reports, presentations and notes from every meeting as well as reference materials are available on the county website. There is a link on village website,
www.portwilliams.com, that will take you directly to this page.
The topics discussed so far are water, sewer, transportation, drainage and the waterfront. Village residents are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings as community input is always welcome. The next meeting is Thurs., Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Village Office. The topics for discussion will recreation and open space.
