A Woodville man is off to serve a federal sentence for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

In Kentville provincial court Monday, July 28, Judge Alan Tufts sentenced Ross James Whitney, 26, to a total of three-and-a-half years in a federal penitentiary for two counts of possession of Schedule I drugs for the purpose trafficking; two counts of possessing Schedule II drugs; one of possession of property known to have been obtained unlawfully; and two Revenue Act offenses, to do with unstamped and untaxed tobacco.

Whiney had pleaded guilty July 14 to possession of cocaine and ecstasy, the Schedule I drugs, for the purpose of trafficking; possession of cannabis marijuana and cannabis resin, the Schedule II drugs; as well as the stolen property and Revenue Act charges.

Judge Tufts sentenced Whitney to three-and-a-half years for each of the first two offenses; two years for marijuana possession; six months for the resin possession; and one month for the stolen property. The sentences are to be served concurrently.

The judge also fined Whitney $500 each or one month in custody on willful default for the Revenue Act offenses.

Whitney committed the offenses in Woodville March 8.
